The benefits of Tuina are many, but as in all other arms of TCM, the main purpose is to treat the person as an individual and help the body to rebalance itself. The following are some of those benefits that may result:
1. Renews energy, vigour and strength.
2. Soothes lower back pain and sciatica.
3. Improves cardiovascular health.
4. Lowers blood pressure.
5. Releases frozen shoulders.
6. Relieves rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.
7. Enhances the body’s immune system.
8. Provides better sleep.
What happens in a Tuina treatment?
It is important for the practitioner to establish trust and communication with the patient during the consultation and taking a full medical history. The diagnostic methods of pulse and tongue are used, to ensure that the patient receives the most effective treatment for their condition.
The treatment itself uses many techniques of Western massage including, pressing stretching, pushing and kneading. Tuina, however, utilises the patients Qi (energy), meridians (pathways) and Acu-points on the body to enhance and rebalance their energy, in order to improve their health.
